Still cold in the shadows

Every year about this time, when that late January/early February cold snap hits, I wonder if this will be the last of the freezes for the year. I know there have been plenty of icy days in March and even April, but it feels somehow that this time here should be about the end of winter’s grip. It feels as though we deserve it, or should, by now. Some heat would be nice, some sun. Maybe some waves, while you’re at it. More sunscreen, less fleece, more tequila, less Yukon Jack.

It seems that there are always two solid weeks of beautiful weather in February. I pretty much count on it. The problem, of course, is that I never know for sure which two weeks they’re going to be.
