Off-line (mostly)

It turns out they do have wi-fi here. “Here” being the place we’re staying in Cannon Beach. Still, with the point of this weekend being some down time, I have the phone turned off and the computer doesn’t get used much (other than as a music source.) I wouldn’t have thought it would be all that difficult for me to unplug but, as the Doobies said so long ago, What were once habits are now vices.
It’s rainy, windy and cold. In other words, it’s pretty much what we expected. I’ll be back in the fall and the weather will likely be better then but, in truth, this isn’t all that bad. It’s given me the excuse to branch out on my reading, at least.
West of Here is the new novel from Jonathan Evison about a fictionalized history of Port Angeles. It’s called Port Bonita in the book, but enough of the place names are true-to-life that it isn’t difficult to figure out what he’s referring to in the pages. So far, so good, and I’m about halfway through it. It’s interesting. I don’t read a lot of fiction and I am nobody’s literary critic, but I’m enjoying it for what it is. It’s a good story.
And with that said, I am unplugging once again.
