Loose ends

With the last (short) chapter in the Ikkatsu Expedition about to get underway, I’m going about 10 different directions at once:

– I just found out yesterday that I’ll be doing a presentation on the Ikkatsu Project at this year’s Surfrider West Coast Summit in Ventura, CA in a couple of weeks. That’s pretty exciting for a few different reasons. Not only will it get the details out to a wider audience of activists, but it will also give me a chance to meet others who are working on the situation as well. (Marcus Eriksen of the 5 Gyres will be the keynote speaker, for example.)
– I’m back at SAMi, teaching a couple of Outdoor Education courses again this semester, walking through the woods for a paycheck and a chance to pass on something about the natural world to the next generation. (Given my age, it may be the generation after that, but who’s counting?)
– Tickets for the 7pm showing of the Ikkatsu documentary are already half sold. That’s pretty exciting too. (Best order now if you’re still thinking about it.)
– I went to my first PTA meeting last night at Micah’s school. Won’t be long now and I’ll be the guy at the bake sales and the car washes. Be sure to honk as you go by.
– I’m going to set aside an hour or so today to pack my bags for the trip to Destruction Island this weekend. It’s a fairly big honor to be allowed to go out and do a couple surveys there, where not many people ever get to set foot. I expect the beaches to be packed with stuff and I wonder what things we’ll find. There will be photos here next week.
