The Last Wilderness is an online repository of resources and narratives relating to wilderness, adventure and the environment. It’s personal, in that it is used as a forward staging point for new ideas and observations to take written form. It is also public, a place where thoughts and people can congregate, mix it up and come away with different perspectives about the world around us. People value what they know; the pursuit of knowledge brings with it a more valuable life.
“There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.”
Ernest Hemingway
“How vain it is to sit down to write when you have not stood up to live.”
Henry David Thoreau
“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature -- the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.”
Rachel Carson
“One day I will find the right words, and they will be simple.”
Jack Kerouac
