List #326

Now that the daily update series is done and the CNN itch has been adequately scratched, I feel like I might have a moment to catch my breath. But only a moment. I do feel like talking about something other than the Ikkatsu Project for a day or two but I’m not really sure that’s even possible. Tsunami debris or not, it’s time to make a list…
–  Still on for climbing Mount Rainier in August. Must get in touch with Ned, make sure there’s not something I should be doing as far as that goes. (You mean kayaking all summer is not adequate training for climbing a volcano?)
– The third leg of the Ikkatsu Expedition is going to be a little shorter than originally thought. We’re going to have a meeting next week to figure out the details but we won’t be able to get permission to land on Destruction Island until September. I think what is going to happen is that we’ll do the coast portion to Ruby Beach and then come back in September to do an out-and-back to the island. It’s just too good to not do it.
– In other expedition news, there’s going to be a Japanese film crew with us for the first couple of days on the upcoming leg. (Not sure how that’s going to work, but we’ll figure it out.) The Asahi Television Network… more news to follow, I’m sure.
– I did talk to the folks from visitrainier.com and they still seem to want me to write for them. Mountain biking stuff, I think. But then I haven’t heard from them since that one phone conversation. All my contacts and partly-written pieces were lost when my computer was stolen last month and I feel a bit behind the 8-ball when it comes to new stuff… I need to get out more. Or something.
– Todd Fischer: helluva artist. (He’s doing a painting for the Ikkatsu Project that we’ll be auctioning off later in the year to benefit Surfrider Japan. (Here’s a sneak peek at it above.) Check out his work here.
– Got a few new SUPs in the shop for rental. $60 a day, $40 for each additional day. It’s a small price to pay to walk on water. Reserve your rental today. 253.691.7941
– The trial of drunk driving, unapologetic, cold-blooded killer Amber Steim has been delayed yet again. More film-flam from the defense. Her lawyer can tap dance pretty well for a large man… as soon as I catch up with the latest in this ongoing travesty of “justice,” I’ll devote more space to the story. For now, just know that if you want to kill someone, do it Port Angeles and use a car. They don’t even consider it a real crime up that way, apparently.
– Did that sound bitter? Sorry.
– My father’s coming to visit on Monday. We’re all pretty excited, especially Micah.
