Mount Ellinor
First ascent honors went to a foursome from the Lake Cushman area in 1879: D. Utler, H Esteps and Mr. and Mrs. J. Waughop.
The mountain was named by Lt. George Davidson of the 1857 United States Coast Survey Team in honor of his bride-to-be, Miss Ellinor Fauntleroy of Indiana. In an effort, no doubt, to eternally ingratiate himself with his future in-laws, he also named the Brothers, Mount Constance and Mount Rose after members of his fiancee’s family. In addition to these, Fauntleroy Cove, Fauntleroy Park and Fauntleroy Creek, all in West Seattle, were part of Lt. Davidson’s strategy of sucking up to the girlfriend’s folks.
