Olympic Grand Circle
Azimuth Flag Expedition
If your definition of an island includes something about land, surrounded on all sides by water, then a closer look at the Olympic Peninsula might be enough to convince you that it is, in fact, an island after all. With the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the north, Puget Sound on the east and the Black and Chehalis Rivers to the south, the region is ringed by some of the most complex and beautiful waterways in the world.
In July of 2010, Ken Campbell will attempt to circumnavigate this "Olympic Island," using a combination of sea kayak, canoe and standup paddleboard. The 425-mile journey promises to be an adventure of the first order, a chance to see one of the most intriguing places on the planet from all sides. Initial estimates call for the expedition to take approximately 23 days; Day 1 is set for July 16th in Olympia, WA.
